The Annual Tshwane Youth Leadership Talk (TYLT) is a platform for dialogue where young leaders discuss, to identify their current education challenges. Through these dialogues, they develop an intimate understanding and propose solutions.

Dr Mathole Motshekga

Dr Mathole Motshekga

Chairperson of Kara Heritage Institute

Prof Motshekga is the former Chief Whip of the majority party. He currently serves as a representative of the ANC in the Judicial Services Commission. He was born on 2 April 1949 in Limpopo. After completing his secondary education he went on to further his studies and obtained a B.Luris degree at Unisa in 1975, LLB in 1978 (UNISA), LLM from Harvard Law School and a Doctor of Laws from Unisa. Prior to Professor Motshekga’s current position, he practiced as an attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa in Pretoria and was admitted as an Advocate in the same court in 1984. He also worked in academia and taught Law at Albert-Ludwigs University in Germany and the University of South Africa.

Thabile also presented an educational youth show called Sistahood on e.tv between 2012 and 2013, then joined the SABC News as a producer and then as anchor.

Described by many as a rare breed of powerful and influential young leaders in Southern Africa, Thabang Ramoroka popularly known as Abuti Rams is an award-winning human development practitioner, thought leader, author, trainer, facilitator, keynote speaker and a digital marketing strategist.

His passion for youth development led him to pioneer an award-winning and most innovative youth-led organisation in Southern Africa called Agape Youth Movement (AYM). Through the organisation, Thabang has worked with individuals and groups across all markets including teachers, students, young adults, community, political and even religious leaders by assisting and guiding them to greater levels of achievement, fulfilment and empowerment in various aspects of their lives.

Busisiwe Gumede

Busisiwe Gumede

Host of Back Chat on eNCA

Gumede has a column called the Youth Chat in the Sowetan newspaper, touching on critical issues with a view of empowering young people to take action.

She is currently on the list of the Mail and Guardian’s top 200 Young South Africans, expected to be released June 2015.

Prior to that, Busi served as a senior reporter at her community radio station, Alex FM where she learned the basic principles of journalism.

She spearheaded the station’s elections show, The Swing Vote, which sought to inform young people about the importance of actively participating in politics to shape their future.

The Swing Vote granted Busisiwe the opportunity to interview notable political figures, including the ANC’s Gwede Mantashe, EFF leader Julius Malema, the DA’s Mmusi Maimane, Former AgangSA leader Maphela Ramphele just to mention a few.

Gumede also served as an ambassador of the South African Brewaries’ #YouDecide campaign that aims to create awareness about the dangers of underage drinking.

Busisiwe is a regular speaker at conferences and televised debates, including monthly debates by the Steve Biko Foundation Frank Talk dialogue that take place before a live audience at the YFM Studios.

A motivator, a giver and a success are some of the words used to describe Melody Miya. Melody
is a 25 year old Katlehong born child of GOD. He holds a BA Sports Communication Degree and
BA Sports Management Honours from the University of Johannesburg and set to pursue his
Masters in Business Administration. Melody is creative, hardworking and a devoted lover of the
Climpse of his story:
After studying for 4 years, Melody worked for a multi-national medical company for 2 years and
had already had a stable life at 22, quarter million rand worth car, a beyond average pay cheque
but was so depressed, stressed and suicidal which led to a life changing decision to quit his job
and pursue a career in the world of entertainment and business.
He found himself alone in the world and then the true journey of self discovery and creation
As a speaker, Melody is amongst the elite when it come’s to what he calls a farmers job which is
planting seeds which he has done after gracing 102 platforms sharing his life with over 25 000
young people to date. His vision is simply to encourage others to be the light of their darkness.
Melody is currently working on his book called “YOUR PAIN IS YOUR POWER”

Cyril Peterson is a young minister seeking to pursue the purposes of God for him in his generation. He submits under the meticulous leadership of Apostle Kabelo Moroke of Charisma Life Tabernacle and the Kairos Network of churches. The Cyril Peterson Brand is managed by Biz M8 Talent – a talent management division of the Biz M8Group.
Cyril is the founder and general overseer of the ministry delivered unto his charge; which is, Living Oracles Tabernacle, an Apostolic and Prophetic New Testament Church, in Pretoria.
Cyril is the founder and director of Naphtali Business Solutions also based in Pretoria. A multidisciplinary organisation. He has featured on both local and international TV and radio shows and he now writes books and manuscripts for his generation.
Lerato Mahoyi

Lerato Mahoyi

Youth Activist, Inspirational Speaker and Facilitator

Lerato Mahoyi is known as an inspirational go-getter who goes out of her way to improve the lives of others. Mahoyi’s drive to help people less fortunate than she is sees her involvement in a wide range of activities, from mentoring young women in her community of Orange Farm in Gauteng to managing a soccer team of 120 young boys to help set them in a positive direction in life, and she is the national focal point for Hands Up for Her, an African campaign that advocates rights for women and children across Africa.

Mahoyi is also media liaison and special projects co-ordinator at BlaqApple Communications, which specialises in events planning and youth socio-economic projects.

Over the years she has focused on facilitation, content development and event co-ordination, training young people in innovation, leadership and socio-political navigation.

Dr Edith Phaswana

Dr Edith Phaswana

Senior Lecturer at TMALI

Dr Edith Phaswana is a senior lecturer at the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute at UNISA where she teaches Public Policy for Africa's Development. She obtained her PhD from London South Bank University in the UK. Apart from her academic commitments she facilitates the Civic Leadership course at the US Presidential programme called Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa; and the Leadership for Social Justice Module for UNISA’s Community Engagement Workshops viz Chance2Advance. Edith has published book chapters and articles in accredited and peer-reviewed journals. She also serve as reviewer for several international and national journals. She has conducted and authored several research reports and policy reviews for the government of South Africa at national and provincial level. She serves in the review panel for research grant proposal at the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the National Institute for the Humanities and the Social Sciences (NIHSS). Current leadership positions include serving as a member of the board of directors for The Pavement Bookworm and as Secretary of the South African Development Studies Association (SADSA).

Kealeboga Moremba

Kealeboga Moremba

Communications Officer at Shanduka Kagiso Trust

Kealeboga Moremba is a 25 year old change maker and community builder from the Mamelodi. She currently works as a Communications Officer at Kagiso Shanduka Trust an  organisation that seeks to build effective and functional schools for children to experience the joy of learning and so that they can fulfil their educational potential. The project currently operates in the rural areas in the Free State Province. In her role as a Communications Officer she creates, plans and executes events and initiatives that are centred around the empowerment of the learner these include Take a Girl Child to work days, dignity days for boys and girls, career days for learners and motivational talks in the schools.

She has served as a volunteer mentor at Ikamva Youth Mamelodi Branch where her main role was to give a young person in need of social and recreational development and emotional support the companionship of an adult to supplement the work of parents and social services and education professionals. She currently serves as a Spirit of Youth facilitator at the Gordon Institute of Business Science Centre for Leadership and Dialogue where her main role is leading the learners to have revelation-bringing conversations that build them as the leaders of today.
